The colorful limestone formation of Tsagaan Suvarga or “White Stupa” is located 420km from Ulaanbaatar and 65 km in the Southwest of the Ulziit village, in the Dundgobi province. It is a steep slope once an ancient sea bed was created over millions of years. One interesting thing is that if you see it from a specific distance, it appears to be the ruins of the city. They are between 30- 60 meters (196, 85 feet) high and 400 meters (1312, 34 feet) long. This slope faces eastward of the sun and rises to the sky at an angle of 90 degrees. It is not visible from the right because it is flat.
After pouring rain, the torrent of water that flows down the stupa looks like a massive waterfall. It is told that Tsagaan Suvarga is the Mongolian Grand Canyon. Its shape resembles the Buddhist stupas or pagodas. Hence it was named after Tsagaan Suvarga (white stupa).
Attractions
There are 2 famous caves that lie 7 km to the east of the white stupa.
Khevtee Bosoo agui (Lie and Stand Cave): They are titled “lie and stand caves” because some parts of the cave are very small, you can only crawl at some point but other areas are very large so you are able to walk normally.
