Top things to do in Mongolian Gobi

Are you planning to visit Gobi Desert? Wondering what else you could do to experience Gobi more except the normal tour itinerary? Here is some ideas you should try while you are in the Gobi. 

• Sledding on Khongoryn els (Sevrei sum, Umnugobi)

Khongor sand is the most beautiful dune to visit in the Gobi Desert. Khongor sand is one of the few places you can do sand surfing after climbing to the peak. There are 2 peaks that most travelers climb which are Duut and Seruun Bulag. People can borrow sleds from the nearest tourist camps and there is an oasis at the bottom of Seruun peak.

• Sunset and sunrise in the steppe

Since there are no mountains and buildings around, the sun will rise and set beautifully as if it was in your hands. The Nature landscape and clear skies will promise you one of the most distinct feelings and beautiful views. • Stargazing

Each area beholds different culture within the steppe, so do not forget to connect with the nomads who live the life. They will welcome you with a warm heart and kindness. Do not forget to bring a few candies for the children, they will love them.

• Getting water from the well

In the Gobi, there is no open resource for water besides the water well. Hence, the animals and nomads get their water needs from their manmade wells. Water in the well is so pure and is ready to get you vitalized and cool you down right. While getting water, you might meet locals who are watering their animals. It will give you the best experience in the Gobi region.

• Seeing Gobi mirage

If at some point you find a huge lake during the day at Gobi, remember it’s tricking you because it’s a mirage. Since mirages can’t be shot by a camera in the best focus it is better to experience in person. There was a one-time tourist who tried to walk through the mirage in hopes of finding a lake. Luckily, his tour guide was there to explain what he was seeing was a mirage.
