Altai Tavan Bogd National Park
In 1996, Altai Tavan Bogd Uul, Khoton, Khurgan, Dayan Lake, Khovd, Khar Salaa, Tsagaan Salaa, Songinot, and Yolt river basins were taken under state protection as Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. In 2012, Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain was declared a state sacred mountain and worshiped every four years. Border control permission is required when traveling to Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. The permission is available at the Border Patrol in Ulgii.
There are many ancient tombs in the complex, the dates of which belong to the Xiongnu, Turkic, Uighur, and Mongol empires. There are more than 30 stone graves in Mogoit and Onkhot valleys.
There are leopards, otters, Altai argali, ibex, and red deer listed in the Mongolian Red Book.
Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain
Altai Tavan Bogd Uul is the highest mountain of Mongolia and located in Tsengel soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag. Thus it is called the roof of Mongolia. Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain is on the triple border with China and Russia. Its highest peak, the Khüiten Peak is the highest point of Mongolia at 4374 meters above sea level. Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain was made a state sacred mountain by the decree of President Ts. Elbegdorj on August 24, 2012.
The Khuiten peak is accessible for experienced mountaineers when joining a guided mountaineering tour.
Climbing is possible in any season of the year, but July to September is the most suitable because of its stable weather, so it is more suitable. However, the weather around Altai Tavan Bogd is very unstable, and you may experience four seasons of the year in one day.

Khuiten Peak 4374 meters,
Nairamdal Peak 4082 meters,
Herder Peak 4037 meters,
Burged Uul 4068 meters and
Ulgii Peak 4050 meters.
White River & Potanin Glacier:
Tavan Bogd Mountain has the three largest glaciers in Mongolia, the Potanin Glacier, the Alexander Glacier, and the Grane Glacier, which are located in Tavan Bogd. The Potanin Glacier, Mongolia's largest glacier, extends 14 kilometers from the headwaters of the Tsagaan River and has a total area of 24 square kilometers. Named after the explorer Grigory Potanin, it ranges over 24 square kilometers.
Khoton & Khurgan lake, Dayan Lake
Khoton, Khurgan, and Dayan are large glacial lakes, and there are more than 250 small lakes. The Mongol Altai Mountains cover 96% of Mongolia's glaciers.
The lowest point of the Mongol Altai Mountains is Lake Khurgan at 1,800 meters.
Shiveet Khairkhan mountain:
Another should not miss attraction is the Shiveet Khairkhan rock drawing in the Altai Tavan Bogd Mountain. The rock drawings are varied and cover a huge area. The earliest rock drawings belong to the beginning of the Bronze Age while the latest belongs to the Turkic Era of V to VIII AD. The Shiveet Khairkan rock drawing has listed in the World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO.
